Sunday, 7:55am, 3 days before my 29th birthday: I’m bundled to the max yet still shivering, standing outside Target waiting for the doors to open. An employee opens the doors and says, “We aren’t quite ready to open, but you can come in and warm up if you want.” I smile partially at this man’s kindness, but mostly out of embarrassment, and I think to myself, “How did I get here?” When I worked at a Starbucks inside Target in high school, I used to laugh at those door-busting people. What could be so important that you got out of bed to be the first to break through those bullseye doors?
For me, this past Sunday, it was 2 packs of oreos that brought me there so early in the morning. I’m apparently that person. After 29 years on this planet, my Sundays have turned into early mornings and packaged cookies.
It’s the kind of cold that feels like a slap in the face as soon as you walk out the door. The kind that brings on chapped hands, red cheeks, and icicle hair. The kind that allows you to use the outside as a freezer. The kind that screams for soup.
Maybe it’s not like that where you are, and if so you’re one lucky devil. You’re also lucky if you don’t have a dog who wants to go outside in the cold dark at 6am.
WELCOME to the new Veggie and the Beast! Let’s celebrate with cupcakes.
I’m thrilled to have a new logo, customized site, and an easy-to-use recipe index. If you head over to the Recipe Index page, you’ll see that you can search by recipe category or ingredient, OR you can just type into the search bar and voila – recipes.
I also have a fun new recipe layout, which you’ll see below. I’m still in the process of converting all of my recipes, so try not to let the inconsistency bug you (it’s bugging me for SURE, so I will have the rest converted asap).
Hi hello! Happy week after Christmas. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday if you celebrated, or at least some time off of work to spend with your favorite people. I had a lovely relaxing week of family, friends, and cookies. So. many. cookies.
The day after Christmas, I went to the co-op and checked out with an embarrassing amount of vegetables. I was craving greens like whoa, while still craving peanut butter blossoms. confusing.
