Left Field Friday: March 8th, 2013
Happy Friday! I’ve decided to expand my post-types a bit with weekly “Left Field Friday” posts, which will allow me to focus on one of my favorite things: randomness. These posts will include a mix of foods I’m obsessing over, things that make me smile, and other random thoughts/observations that come to mind. This will be a good chance for us to get to know each other better. It’s like an awkward first date, except I’m the only one talking…which, ironically, is the opposite of most of my first date experiences.
- The Beast and I went on a mini-vacation in Florida last week. I had dreams of hot sand, swimsuits, and sun-induced sleepiness, but instead I ended up looking like this for the majority of the vacation. Can I take a mulligan?
- Despite my intermittent whining, we ended up having a lovely time. Highlights included rekindling my piña colada love (we’re back together in a big, bad way), winning the most epic game of Crazy Eights ever, and a big ‘ol scoop of my very VERY favorite ice cream, which I enjoyed by the ocean (worth. every. chilly. minute).
- I need to talk about my girl crushes, because they’re polar opposites and it confuses me. First, I love Jennifer Lawrence…as in, I kind of want to BE her. Any leading lady who 1) admits “I’m STARVING” to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet and 2) isn’t ashamed to be a bit flirty with (yet also pretty creeped out by) Jack Nicholson, gets a big thumbs-up in my book.
- Secondly, I’ve been watching far too much Millionaire Matchmaker lately, and I want to be Patti Stanger’s best friend. I know she would think I’m boring, and she’d hate how I dress (are you wearing a bag? where’s the cleavage?!), but her guaranteed disapproval just makes me love her more. Let’s not read any meaning into that last sentence. Onward…
- It’s Girl Scout Cookie season! I’m a freak for Thin Mints, especially when they’re kept cold and crisp in the freezer. I’m waiting for mine to be delivered by my friend who’s connected in the little kid circle, so until I get my grubby hands on that box, I may need to make these to tide me over. Dangerous…
- This weekend I am going to make baked donuts and I am going to SUCCEED, damn it. One morning I tried three times and failed miserably with each effort. They looked pretty, felt fluffy and smelled inviting, but they tasted of nothing but heaviness and cinnamon. Keep your fingers crossed for me. If things don’t go well, I might be buying a fancy donut-hole making contraption so I can make these babies.
- Lastly, I can’t believe my college didn’t give me the chance to steal Nutella. So much for a well-rounded college experience.
